Discipline can be defined as: management action to encourage compliance with organization standards

      

Due Process: Established rules and procedures for disciplinary action are followed and employees have an opportunity to respond to charges made against them

 

Preventive Discipline: action taken to encourage employees to follow standards and rules; standards known and understood; emphasis is on self discipline

 

Corrective Discipline: action that follows a rule infraction and seeks to discourage further infractions; usually involves a penalty and called a disciplinary action; intent is to reform offender, deter others, and maintain standards
